So; elderly people seem to think that because they are old they should immediately earn all respect from people. This is sometimes true, as with old age can come wisdom. Wisdom deserves respect. What some people don't seem to understand is that just because they are old does not mean that they are wise; and if they aren't wise then they aren't going to have anybody who respects them.
Moral of the story: Use logic when you are old and I will respect you.

Because it's an age old conception about the elderly. Obviously they have more experience, but not necessarily in the right thing(s) that would grant them the respect they seem so thirsty for, if I may. You have old people that are generally smart, wise and are the sort of people you'd want to teach you. Then there are those who are ignorant, arrogant, and don't know two shits about what you want/need to know, and generally some sort of an addiction involving drugs of the sort is involved. Most likely due to a bad life decision. But, true statement, my good sir.

Yes, I can completely agree that there are many old people that are in fact, wise and deserve respect. I actually had a conversation with one a week or two ago about how my generation and the generation before us are completely stupid and normally do nothing with their lives. We also discussed the philosophy of legalizing marijuana, and how aging is actually a disease that he wishes we would look into more to be able to cure. (It actually is, and it might be something that we can fix, but we don't care to look into it that much.)
Anyway. Then you have the people who are old and they decide that since they are old the are obviously wiser and can tell young people what to do and expect no questions.
They just piss me off. If you can't give me a reason behind what you are telling me to do or claiming I have done then no, I am not going to respect you or listen to what you have to say. When you can form a solid argument then I might listen.

This can also be applied to anyone in authority; sure, I'll listen to an extent, but you will damn well earn my respect before I give it to you.
